Were you born in the wrong era?

Most people would probably agree that 21st century dwellers have a pretty good time of things. We're not plagued by diseases like smallpox, we're not in the middle of a world war, and we have machines to help us do housework that would have taken our great-grandmothers hours of manual toil.

However, it seems that some of us are unhappy with our lot in life and would rather have been born in a completely different era.

In a poll of more than 2,000 people to coincide with the launch of Yesterday TV series Inquisition, 57 per cent of respondents said they wish they didn't live in the present day, the Daily Mail reports.

When asked which decade or historical period they would have preferred, one in five voted for the Swinging Sixties, perhaps for the music, the fashion and the feeling that change was in the air.

Interestingly, ancient Rome came in second place, with 9.9 per cent of people saying they would like to have lived way back then. This is despite the fact that there was no electricity and heads of state were fond of slavery and making people fight to the death.

The 1950s came next on the list, followed by the Roaring Twenties and finally the 1930s. This last entry is particularly surprising since the era was plagued by economic difficulties and sliding towards the biggest war the world had ever seen.

It comes after another poll published by FreeDeliveryLand.co.uk earlier this year asked people to name their biggest bugbears of the 21st century.

High on the list were self-service checkouts, selfies, sat navs, Twitter trolls and people texting while walking, suggesting that we're frustrated by many of the things that have come about as a result of inventions supposed to make our lives easier.

Indeed, 19 of the moans featured mobile phones or the internet – could it be that we're all harking back to simpler times and that explains the results of the Yesterday survey?

Alternatively, some people believe you're attracted to certain periods in history because you've been there before – why not find out by speaking to one of our psychics about past life regression?
