Paranormal activity in the West Midlands?

The West Midlands appears to be a hotbed of paranormal activity, according to newly revealed figures.

Statistics uncovered as part of a Freedom of Information request show that more than 70 reports of zombies, ghosts and witches have been reported to West Midlands Police in the last three years, the BBC reports.

The figures demonstrate a year-on-year increase, with 17 reports in 2011, 24 in 2012 and 30 last year, with Birmingham East boasting the most reported paranormal activity.

They also reveal that there were 15 sightings of potential ghosts, 55 witches and just two zombies. Reports of zombie sightings were something that developed in 2013, with previous calls to the police relating mainly to the former two groups.

Billy Corrigan, a spokesman for the force, told the BBC: "The reports include ghost, zombie and witch sightings; hearing and communicating with the aforementioned; the use of witchcraft; claims to be a witch; and witch hunters."

As well as ghosts and zombies, 19 people in the West Midlands contacted the authorities regarding possible UFO sightings.

It appears that paranormal activity is not just confined to the West Midlands, with Native Monster recently listing ten places across the whole Midlands region which have elements that are not of this world.

Top of the list is the Station Hotel in Dudley, where legend has it the manager once tried to entice a servant girl and subsequently murdered her when she said no and threatened to tell his wife. Many guests at the hotel have run away from room 214 where the murder apparently happened, with some so scared that they refused to return to collect their belongings.

Warwick Castle also features on the list, along with Alton Towers and Salford Hall in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Another haunted location fans of the supernatural may like to visit in the near future is Drakelow Tunnels in Kidderminster, where the souls of six people who died in constructing the tunnels are believed to reside.
