Humour rates highest in desirable traits list
Both women and men who are looking for love rate humour highest on a must-have list of desirable traits, according to a new poll.
Experian quizzed more than 2,000 people to see what British people really desire in a partner and what they might be prepared to forego in order to find lasting love.
A whopping 87 per cent of women reported that a sense of humour is the most attractive factor in a man, while three-quarters said financial responsibility is important.
The top five was rounded out by intelligence (74 per cent), good looks (65 per cent) and family plans (64 per cent). Wealth came last on the list of 12 traits, with only 21 per cent citing it as important.
Interestingly, a sense of humour also topped the charts for what men look for in a woman, with 80 per cent of males surveyed saying this is top of their must-haves.
However, good looks came second for the guys at 67 per cent, followed by intelligence, financial responsibility and life goals. Again though, wealth came last – and even fewer men (18 per cent) reported it as especially important.
Relationship expert Jo Hemmings explained that being sensible with money might not sound like much fun, but it appeals to our subconscious desire to make long-terms plans about starting a family.
"Shared, core values are one of the components of any successful relationship," she added.
Whatever you're looking for when it comes to love, it might be a good idea to think outside the usual meeting places in order to meet the person of your dreams.
Even the supermarket might do, as we recently reported after a survey by Shopitize found a growing number of people are meeting husbands and wives in the aisles as they browse what's on offer.
You could also consider having regular tarot readings to discover whether or not the signs are indicating change in your life that might indicate forthcoming love matches.
