Has science proved telepathy really exists?

Over the centuries, people all over the world have reported incidents in which they managed to communicate with another human being telepathically, perhaps by knowing when the phone was about to ring or when a loved one was in trouble.

However, new research could have proved that this phenomenon really does exist outside the realms of science fiction – something psychics and mediums have known all along.

A study carried out by Spanish research organisation Starlab, Harvard University, and a robotics firm called Axilum asked a scientist called Dr Michel Berg to sit in a laboratory in north-eastern France to sit and think while wired up to state-of-the-art equipment.

At the same time, another scientist called  Dr Alejandro Riera did the same thing in the Indian city of Kerala.

It was found that the two men were able to achieve 'conscious brain-to-brain communication', the first scientifically documented telepathic conversation in human history.

The results were published in the journal PLOS ONE and came about after the team assessed the binary codes received by the computer equipment.

It was a brief conversation, with only the words 'hola' and 'ciao' passing between the men, but they hope it could have wide-ranging consequences.

"We have shown that it is possible to send a mental message between two people, without using sight, touch, sound, taste or smell," Dr Berg told the Daily Mail, pointing out that it might be able to help people who have suffered strokes or have locked-in syndrome that renders them unable to communicate.

Scientists could be interested in doing this research on twins next, as they are famed for their ability to communicate without talking.

In a case discussed in a study carried out at the University of Minnesota, two men put up for adoption at birth met for the first time aged 39 and found they had both married women called Linda.

As if that were not coincidence enough, they both subsequently divorced and remarried women called Betty, had identical jobs and both owned a dog called Toy.

To further explore telepathy, why not give one of our psychic mediums a call?
